Steps, not secrets.
What Walk Good reads. Keeps. Never does.
Walk Good turns your real steps into a walk across seven published Caribbean countries — Jamaica, Barbados, Saint Lucia, Grenada, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago and Dominica, with more soon come. To do that it needs very little, and keeps health data separate from optional cultural choices. This page explains both.
What we read
- Your step count
- With your permission, Walk Good reads one thing from Apple Health: your daily step count. It never reads where you walked, your heart rate, sleep, workouts or any other health record, and it never writes anything to Apple Health.
- Your email address
- Used to send you a one-time sign-in code. There are no passwords, other than test accounts we issue to Apple's app reviewers.
- Your age confirmation
- Before you can sign in you confirm you are 13 or older. Optional cultural research needs a separate confirmation that you are 18 or older.
- Device check
- Apple App Attest checks that your steps come from a genuine iPhone running Walk Good before we accept them. It vouches for the device, not you personally, and we never use it to track you elsewhere.
- Your display name, Personal Mark and frame
- The name, permanent mark and optional frame you choose, shown in your app and private Groups. Country discovery and Island Card shares contain the artwork, Walk Good branding and the fixed step milestone. Personalised card formats can also include your first name, mark and frame; you see the image before sharing. You choose the destination in your device's share sheet.
- Optional country answers
- During onboarding you may choose your country of origin and country of residence. These are your own answers, not your location or an inference about your ancestry. We keep them private to your account to understand our audience. You can skip them or change or clear them in Profile → About you. They do not change your step target, rewards or access.
- Optional cultural choices
- Up to three interests (music, food, nature, history, art and craft, or games) and a preferred collection format. These help us plan future collections. We do not infer your ethnicity, religion, health or location from them. You can skip these questions and play for free.
What we keep
- Daily step totals, so your Personal Journey can move along the route and be kept safe if you change phones.
- Your progress along the route, the countries and regions you have reached and the Cultural Cards and Island Cards you have earned.
- Your private Group: its name, who is in it, and each member's weekly step total for the race.
- The Apple App Attest key and attestation that prove your steps came from Apple Health on your own iPhone, so nobody can fake a walk.
- If you save optional country answers: those answers and their onboarding completion record, until you change or clear them or delete your account.
- If you save cultural choices: those choices, your separate research-consent choice, an adult confirmation when you opt in, the notice version and when the record was updated. We do not ask for your date of birth.
- Your selected Personal Mark frame. Earned frames use existing verified journey progress; this setting is used only for gameplay and is removed when you delete your account.
- Reports you make about another Group member, and anyone you have blocked, so we can review them and keep your block in place.
Group members only ever see your display name, your Personal Mark and frame, your position on the route and your step totals for the week. They never see your email, your daily detail or anything from Apple Health.
A country discovery or Island Card share contains the card and its fixed unlock milestone, not your personal daily step total. Personalised card formats may also include your first name and mark with its frame. We do not attach your account identifier, private Group details or physical location. Preparing the image does not upload it to Walk Good or a partner.
What we never do
- We never sell individual answers, identifiers, health data or private Group activity.
- We never use Apple Health data for advertising, marketing, data mining or any purpose other than moving your own journey. That is Apple's rule and it is ours. It will not change if Walk Good introduces paid features.
- We never share health data with third parties, analytics providers or advertisers.
- We never show your raw Apple Health records to your Group — only your position on the route and your weekly step total.
- We never track you across other apps or websites, and we do not use advertising identifiers or analytics SDKs.
- We never read your location.
Earlier cultural choices
We are retiring the optional interests and collection-format questionnaire, including its separate adult-only research opt-in. Updated versions no longer ask these questions or offer new research consent. Earlier choices remain private to your account until you clear them or delete your account.
Any earlier research permission covered only combined counts of declared interests and collection preferences, with review to prevent identifying people. It did not permit email marketing or sharing individual answers, names, email addresses, steps, health records, route progress or Group activity. No partner receives direct database access. Participation never changes your journey or rewards.
In updated versions, go to Profile → Data & privacy → Clear choices & withdraw. This control appears when earlier choices are saved, or when we cannot check them. On earlier versions, use Your choices in Profile or Cards (previously Journal). Withdrawal stops future use; a combined report already shared cannot be recalled. Clearing removes your answers and research permission. Account deletion removes the underlying choices and consent record.
Your controls
- Step access — switch it off any time in Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Walk Good. Your journey pauses; nothing is lost.
- Sign out — from your Profile in the app. Your journey stays saved to your email.
- Optional country answers — Profile → About you lets you change or clear your answers.
- Earlier cultural choices and research — Profile → Data & privacy → Clear choices & withdraw in updated versions, or Your choices on earlier versions.
- Export your data — Profile → Data & privacy → Export my data, any time.
- Delete your account — Profile → Data & privacy → Delete my account. We ask you to verify with a fresh email code and give an explicit confirmation before anything is removed. Your personal journey, cards, Group memberships, optional country answers and Personal Mark are removed. Completed results in other people’s Groups may remain with your profile details removed. If you created a Group, it closes for everyone in it. Your steps stay in Apple Health — we only ever read them.
- Report or block someone — in a Group, report a member for harassment, an inappropriate name, spam or another reason, and block them so they can no longer affect you there. We review reports within 24 hours and can remove names or content and suspend accounts.
- Ask us — email support@walkgood.app to request a copy of your data or to have it deleted without the app.
Where it lives
Walk Good's data is stored with Supabase, our managed database, authentication and email provider, and protected so that each person can only read their own records and the permitted view of their Group. This website is hosted with Vercel, which sees the standard web request data needed to serve these pages and nothing from inside the app. Neither processor is permitted to use your data for their own purposes. Step totals are kept for as long as you have an account and deleted with it. The waiting-list email you may have given us on this site is linked to your account when you sign up with the same address and deleted with it too.
